Cancels and replaces SN 00.03.15 of 31/07/2015 and 23/12/2015 for the update of the “Warranty Management” paragraph

INTRODUCTION

The digital tachograph is an instrument governed by specific safety standards for preventing tampering with the digital equipment and ensure correct display of speed and driving time data to ensure road safety. Therefore, the technical skills and professional approach of workshops authorised to fit and service the digital tachograph and gearbox sending unit is paramount.

On this subject European legislation and national regulations have established the necessary requirements for workshops and installers who can work with the new equipment and have identified the criteria for authorising technical centres.

OPERATIONS IN PRODUCTION

Beginning from October 2011, implementation of digital tachographs Continental-VDO type (A and C – Fig. 1) replacing the previous Actia type (B – Fig. 1).

OPERATIONS AT THE DEALERSHIPS

Dealerships should mandatorily proceed as follows in case of failure to digital tachograph and/or gearbox sending unit:

1) IF YOU ARE NOT A VDO PARTNER WORKSHOP:

• Run continuity/insulation inspections on power cables and signals and carry out interventions external to the digital tachograph and the gearbox sending unit (with tamperproof seal) only.
• Take the vehicle to a VDO partner workshop if the digital tachograph and/or of the gearbox sending unit (with tamperproof seal) need to be replaced.

2) IF YOU ARE A VDO PARTNER WORKSHOP:

• Run continuity/insulation inspections on power cables and signals and replace the digital tachograph and the gearbox sending unit (with tamperproof seal).

WARRANTY MANAGEMENT

Vehicles manufactured before February 1, 2014 (date of first assignment)

• Interventions under warranty on the digital tachograph and relative gearbox sending unit must be performed by VDO partner workshops.
• The costs of repair/replacement (only if the error is verifiable based on the tachograph and relative gearbox sending unit side) are covered by the VDO partner workshop.

Vehicles manufactured after February 1, 2014 (date of first assignment)

• Interventions under warranty on the digital tachograph and relative gearbox sending unit must be performed by authorised Fiat/Continental-VDO service centres or by VDO partner workshops.
• The costs of the interventions will be borne by FCA by inserting the refund in the warranty system (attaching the invoice of the costs sustained, if applicable).
• If the digital tachograph and relative gearbox sending unit are replaced, the new components must be ordered through the FCA channels.
