The vehicle is equipped with two dipped beams in the headlights. To activate the dipped beam headlights, turn the special control wheel on the steering column switch unit left lever. The wheel only has one position and this also activates side/number plate lights. The daylight lights (only switched on by the enablement signal with the key in the ON position) are simultaneously deactivated. See E2010 SIDE LIGHTS / NO. PLATE LIGHTS The switching on of the dipped headlamps is managed by the Body Computer. A special relay built into the Body Computer controls the activation of the dipped headlamps via two lines protected by dedicated fuses. The dipped beam headlight function is activated by enablement signals received when the key is inserted and turned to MAR-ON in the ignition switch and a specific control signal sent from the steering column stalk. The dipped beam headlights can also be activated automatically by the dusk sensor (where fitted), if the AUTO function is set using the left-hand steering column stalk ring nut. The dusk sensor is an infrared LED device which detects variations in brightness outside the vehicle depending on the light setting: the greater the sensitivity, the less the exterior light needed to activate the side lights being turned on. The setting can be altered by the user through the instrument panel display set up menu (COMFORT version only). To activate this AUTO function turn the ring nut on the left steering column stalk to the corresponding position. In this way the side lights and the dipped headlights come on automatically depending on the exterior brightness. Once the dusk sensor detects a sufficient level of external light to be able to turn off the lights, it will switch off the dipped beam headlights and, after about ten seconds, the side lights as well.
In addition, the vehicle is equipped with a Follow me home function which lights up the area surrounding the vehicle for a limited period. This function can be activated without the key inserted (or with it turned to the OFF position) by pulling the left steering column stalk towards the steering wheel within two minutes of the engine being switched off. This causes the front lights to come on for 30 seconds, a time which can be prolonged by 30 seconds each time the lever is activated, up to a maximum of 210 seconds. When this time is up the lights automatically switch off. When the stalk is operated the side lights warning light in the instrument panel comes on together with the message shown on the display for the period during which the function remains activated. The warning light comes on when the lever is operated and stays on until the function is automatically deactivated. Each movement of the stalk only increases the amount of time the lights stay on. Keep the stalk pulled towards the steering wheel for more than 2 seconds in order to manually interrupt the function. The activation of the dipped beam headlights allows the rear fog lights to be switched on using the control on the central control panel, and the orientation of the headlights to be adjusted using the buttons on the left-hand control panel. |
