The Body Computer M001 receives a direct battery supply at pin A of connector A.

This direct battery power supply is protected upstream by fuse F71 (CPL1) of the B099 maxifuse control unit on the battery (connector D). On the Minibus versions, the above power supply is protected by fuse F73 (CPL1) of the maxifuse box B099 (connector D).

The Body Computer M001 also receives an ignition-operated supply (INT) at pin 2 of connector G.

It is connected to the earth of the central dashboard C022 (connector A) via pins 1 and 11 of connector G.

This version requires the use of the TUM control unit, which is a CAN communication gateway between the control units installed in the factory and those independent of the manufacturer.

The M209 control unit receives a direct battery supply at pin 2 of connector A via the line protected by fuse F36 of the Body Computer M001 (pin 13 of connector C).

At pin 13 of connector B it also receives an ignition-operated supply (INT) along the line protected by fuse F37 of Body Computer M001 (pin 16 of connector C). Pin 5 of connector A of M209 is connected to the C022 centre dashboard earth (connector A).

Pins 22-24 and 23-26 of connector B of M209 are shunted to permit TUM device hardware identification in the rest of the system.

The M209 TUM control unit is placed between Body Computer M001 and the other nodes connected to the CAN-C. This is precisely why a short circuiting coupling is adopted. It is applied to the connector installed in the factory (D305), which must be removed in order to install the TUM harness or must be applied again should the harness be removed: without this short circuiting coupling, it would not be possible to use the vehicle because there would be a break in the C-CAN.

The nodes connected via the high-speed CAN-C are:

  • the R010 diagnosis socket (for control units installed in the factory);

  • the TUM control unit M209;

  • the E005 tachograph;

  • the steering angle control unit M092 (only versions with ESP);

  • the ABS/ESP braking system control unit M051;

  • the Powertrain Control Module M010.

The M001 Body Computer, from pins 28 and 29 of connector H, is connected with the R010 diagnosis socket (pins 6 and 14).

The M001 Body Computer (pins 37 and 38 of connector D) is then connected to the M209 TUM control unit (pins 15 and 14 of connector B); the latter is then connected to the remaining control units of the system.

In detail, the M209 TUM control unit is connected:

  • from pins 19 and 17 of connector C, with FMS-CAN socket R058 (pins 2 and 1) via dedicated high speed communication protocol (J1939);

  • from pins 2 and 1 of connector B, with the E005 tachograph (pins 8 and 4 of connector A) and, for versions with ESP, with the M092 steering angle control unit (pins 2 and 4 of connector B), or, for versions without ESP, with the M051 ABS/ESP braking system control unit (pins 14 and 26).

For the versions with ESP, the steering angle control unit M092 is connected to pins 26 and 14 of the braking system control unit M051 through pins 3 and 1.

The ABS/ESP braking system control unit M051 is then connected, via pins 15 and 27, to the Powertrain Control Module M010 (pins 83 and 84 of connector B for the 3.0 JTD version, pins 70 and 69 of connector B for the 2.3 JTD version, pin 25 and 24 of connector B for the 2.0 JTD version).

Should inter-CAN (FGA-FMS) communication not be available, the FMS-CAN must be closed by applying a jumper between pins 10 and 17 of connector C of the connection harness to activate the internal terminal resistor (120 ohm). Therefore, if the harness and/or control unit is replaced, it will be necessary to restore it.

The following nodes are connected to the M001 Body Computer via the low speed B-CAN:

  • from pins 10 and 25 of connector H, the radio P020 (pins A3 and A1 of connector A) and the Bluetooth control unit M162 (pins 14 and 30);

  • from pins 11 and 26 of connector H, the instrument panel E050 (pins 5 and 6);

  • from pins 12 and 27 of connector H, the airbag control unit M060 (pins 7 and 8 connector A);

  • from pins 9 and 24 of connector H, the diagnosis socket R010 (pins 9 and 1);

  • from pins 41 and 40 of connector D, the M070 climate control system control unit (pins 1 and 2) and with the M209 TUM control unit (pins 13 and 12 of connector C);

  • from pins 45 and 60 of connector F, the parking sensor control unit M084 (pins 12 and 6 of connector A), the controlled suspension control unit M046 (pins M and L of connector B) and the transformer socket P125 (pins 9 and 10 of connector A) – where provided -.

On versions with optional radio preparation, there is no B-CAN for the radio.
