In the case of poor visibility it is possible to activate the demisting of the exterior rear view mirrors.

The heating resistances for these components absorb a considerable amount of energy and are therefore controlled and, possibly, deactivated after they have been working for a certain length of time:

The function is managed by the Body Computer.

The timed activation of the defrosting takes place if the key is inserted in the ignition in the MAR-ON position (INT/A) - supply interrupted during starting - and if the special button in the centre switch unit is pressed.

The function is switched off manually by turning the ignition key to STOP (or with the key extracted) or by pressing the dedicated button again.

The function is deactivated automatically after it has been working for twenty minutes.

During the first ten minutes, operation is independent of the engine parameters.

Once this period is over, the function also depends on the engine rpm, in particular:

• if the engine speed is < 960 rpm for 10 seconds, the function is deactivated;

• if, later on, the engine speed is > 1056 rpm for at least 5 seconds, the function is reactivated.

In addition, during the entire period the function remains active, the Body Computer monitors the battery voltage, deactivating the defrosting if it goes below 11.5 V for more than 5 seconds.

If, the battery voltage then goes above 12.5 V for at least 15 seconds, the function is restored.

With the defrosting function on, the LED in the button in the centre switch panel is lit up.

The activation timer is restored each time the button is operated.

The rear view mirror circuit is controlled by a dedicated relay switch and protected by a dedicated fuse both located in the engine compartment junction unit.
