Check for notching and excessive wear on the ring gear teeth. The bearings must be replaced whenever they show signs of scoring, excessive play and wear.

1. Loosen the bolts securing the ring gear to the differential components casing.

1. Place the differential casing in the press supporting it appropriately and separate the ring gear (1b) from the differential casing (1d) using the tool (1a).

1. Remove the pin (1b) locking the satellite carrier pin using a suitable tool (1a).

1. Remove the satellite carrier pin (1a), the two satellite gears (1b) and the thrust washers (1c), the two planet gears (1d) and the thrust washers (1e).

The satellite carrier pin should not show signs of seizing, wear or excessive wear on the casing.

The satellite gears should not be chipped or worn on the working surfaces.

Refitting ( Removing )

- Proceed with washing the differential casing components and the flanged differential cover.

- Check that the planet and satellite gears are not damaged or worn; if they are, they must be replaced.

- Check that the washers are not worn; if they are, they must be replaced.

- Lubricate the planet gears, satellite gears and washers with transmission fluid.

- Position the differential gear casing in the vice, placing two appropriate protective devices in between.

1. Position the thrust washer (1a) and planet gear (1b) in the differential components casing.

2. Position the thrust washers (2a) and satellite gears (1b) in the differential components casing.

1. Position the planet gear (1a) and thrust washer (1b).

1. Fit the satellite carrier pin (1a) aligning the opening (1b) for fitting the pin with the opening in the components casing (1c).

1. Fit the pin locking the satellite carrier pin using a suitable tool.

- Rotate the differential components casing through 180° in relation to the horizontal axis, then place it in the vice positioning two suitable protections.

1. Position the ring gear (1a) on the differential components casing then tighten the bolts (1b) to the recommended torque.
